Tonight’s Super Full Moon

Full Moon – taken 31st July 2015
The full moon is a great time to cleanse crystals and other important items such as feathers, tarot cards and jewellery.  It is a great time for rituals to let go.  Tonight’s Super Full Moon is also a time for personal transformation.

Here are some great articles regarding cleansing crystals as well as other full moon rituals.

Tonight I am ready to let go.

At 12:50pm AEST time the other side of the world experienced a lunar eclipse and calling it a Blood Moon.  I found a great quote about the power of the lunar eclipse and our personal transformation.  It is a choice.

This lunar eclipse presents us with a choice: We can cool the fires of our self-doubt in the Piscean waters of wisdom and empowerment, or, if we choose to swim against the current and resist change, we may find ourselves drowning in a pool of sorrow.

The article is from Anandashree Astrology http://www.anandastrology.com/blog/blood-moon-of-the-warrior-star
For me personally it speaks so much truth.  As a Piscean I feel the struggle with self doubt on a daily basis.  I am transforming and need to change.  It is time to let go, quash these fears and forget my past hurts.

Making Something New Out Of Something Old

In 2013 we had ex-tropical cyclone Dylan pass our doorstep and I learnt about lot about how the rain comes down during the wet season in Queensland… it comes down hard… and sideways … and gets into the house.

To cut a long story short, our house leaked. Specifically it leaked in a couple of places we didn’t know and I lost some of my belongings to water damage. The most heart breaking was the leak in the Studio. It pooled under my visual art diaries that were on the floor waiting for their new home in my art cupboard. I lost artwork that I had been creating since high school.

I managed to salvage some but lost more than I care to think about.  The hardest part for ‘Bec the Hoarder’ was to actually throw the damaged visual diaries out. How could I part with my art history??  Quite simply, I didn’t. The idea was born that I would turn it into recycled paper and give it a new life.

And so, the other day my journey began.

I filled a tub with warm water and filled it with paper about 1cm square. I left this to soak for about 48 hours.

To make the pulp my guide book says to make it in a bottle and after leaving it sit you just shake the bottle. I thought using my stick blender in the tub was going to be easier than that.  I was left with a grey porridge pulpy mix.

it needs to be a consistency like porridge

Next, using the mould and screens I started making my little pieces of paper.

They get flattened out in the mould, then laid out on newspaper and cloth and you sponge the water out.

Lay another piece of cloth over the top and start the process again.

My first batch has made 21 pieces of varying thicknesses. I am pretty happy with the result.
I am waiting for this batch to dry and already planning my next lot of colours.

There are mottled pieces from a variety of old artworks and coloured paper. I am repurposing my old artwork and feel like it is being given a new lease of life.

Stay turned for what I make out of these pieces!

My First Day – Off and Racing

So today has been a busy day!

Luckily for me and my new creative ideas I was planning a trip into Rocky anyway so adding a detour to the second hand shops was a bonus.  Lifeline and Vinnies on the Northside provided me with a hoard of white photo frames! I could not believe my luck. This will be a great starting point.  I cant wait to show you a sneak peek of what I plan to do with these… (patience)…

suitcase

As I was walking out the door, very satisfied, I noticed the cutest little white suitcase. I love old suitcases and bags.

An idea we are throwing around for | the lost underground | is to use my collection as our travel cases for our camera equipment (after some minor adjustments to make them bump and knock proof).  Just to be quirky and individual.

Welcome

Greetings!

My name is Bec and I am one half of | the lost underground | a creative studio based on the Capricorn Coast, Queensland.

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art and Visual Culture) double major.  I am passionate about painting, taking photographs and spending time at the beach with my sidekick and shadow Kuda the Studio Dog.

Blues And Sunshine is starting off as a small Etsy shop where I create, make and sell my artwork and photography.
I have decided to keep a blog to record my journey right from the start.

Please enjoy the ride.
